Day longs provide a foundation for exploring the Dharma and establishing a steady meditation practice. Day longs range from beginner days that introduce mindfulness practices and fundamental teachings; "applied mindfulness" classes that focus on particular life issues or days that dive deep into the suttas. Unless otherwise stated, all days are open to beginners or experienced alike. Please note that while the days are open to beginners, instructions may not always be specific to beginners. You are always welcome to ask questions and clarify instructions at the appropriate time.
Stephen Jenkinson puts forward the notion, "how would it be to proceed as if we are needed?". We can live life as if what we do doesn't matter and that it doesn't have an impact on others. Or we can live as if everything we do matters. What if your support was deeply needed by someone? What if your honesty and kindness were exactly what a friend needed to hear? What if your words of encouragement were the foundation for someone's radical life change? What if ..... Living this way welcomes our gifts, strengths and boldness into life.
This day is suitable for beginners or experienced meditators. There will be guided meditations, Q & A and a chance to explore for yourself "how would it be to proceed as if I am needed?"
There's two general themes of a human-beingness that we work with in Insight meditation. Warmth and wakefulness. Warmth is about being out there and open to people and ourselves. From Ron Kurtz.... "Warmth can be limited by too much self-interest or self-focus. Wakefulness is about pace. It's hard to be wakeful when you're reactive. If you have to shut out everything else because because you have certain goals you're trying to get to and you're moving at a pace that doesn't leave room to stop, feel, connect with yourself and others, maybe kneel down and look a child in the eye, then you're not awake."
You also might be more prone to hurt yourself and others.
This day is suitable for beginners or experienced meditators. There will be guided meditations, Q & A explorations around warmth and pace.
